Sophomore Class Publicity Officer
Position Assessment
As the Sophomore Class Publicity Officer I’ve done quite a lot for the publicity. I’ve made a class Instagram which we have used to publicize all sorts of events. Most of the month of homecoming was prep for homecoming itself. We had a class meeting for homecoming and how people could potentially help. Actual work being done for homecoming had occurred a week and a half after. There were practices for the lip sync and there were set dates made for float decorating. Each of the officers were in charge of different things involving homecoming. I was in charge of the rally but that same day the sophomores had to decorate the front of the school, which proved to be difficult. All of the hard work that was put into the lip sync had paid off. The sophomores had gotten first place in the lip sync. All the hard work that was put into the float had also paid off. The sophomores had also gotten first place in the float. Before Homecoming week on our class Instagram we posted on the spirit days and the potential outfits a person could where. I also made a digital poster of all the spirit days which ended up on the ASB Instagram. Homecoming week itself a lot to handle. The sophomores worked together and handed out items that increased participation. The class had encouraged each other and kept getting 2nd place in Spirit every day. A week after homecoming there were preparations made for the Kyoto kids. There was a rally and a banquet. For the banquet I had brought Mexican Rice to represent a food from everyday Mexican life. After Kyoto there was Tri-Tip BBQ sales that did not go so well. There was a lack of communication and I had not gone out to sell the tickets. I ended up selling only 9 tickets which is better than not selling any. I also have a plan for the spirit bomb that still needs to be planned amongst my peers. I refuse to have a lack of communication when I can be the one to initiate the communication. Also the sophomore class officers have begun preparations for Winter Formal. I made an Instagram account for this years formal. I had also asked Mrs. Pendleton to send out a notification on SuperFan that way the student body would follow the account.
Standing Committee
My Standing Committee is the Publicity/Spirit Committee. Since I am in charge of the Spirit Bomb I had decided to do a Spirit Bomb to Mrs. Penndleton. The committee has brainstormed a few ideas. For the Spirit Bomb there will be a poster paper base, streamers with the colors of the Netherland flag, photos of crocs, logo of United, an A’s logo and photos of Mrs. Pendleton. I still need to communicate with the committee about all of that and if we are able to do that. Communication is key in effective leadership.
Special Committee
The special committee I am currently involved in is Tri-Tip. For the Tri-Tip BBQ I will be a runner and I’m excited. Ticket sales didn’t go so well for the fact that my group and I had not communicated. Our group still sold quite a bit of tickets and I had sold 9. In total we had sold 47 Tr-Tip tickets.
Concerns
My biggest concern is the lack of communication. If we as a class can't connect and communicate with one another than nothing is going to get done. I am also at fault for not communicating but I realize my faults and am trying to fix them.
Positive Comment
Major Props to Naomi. Without her, Emma and I would probably struggle way more that what we do. Naomi worked so hard on the lip sync and came up with the choreograph. Naomi is an amazing person and incredibly hardworking.
Change
I’ve noticed a huge change in class participation and competition. There is genuine competition amongst classes and compared to last year as freshmen, it's a big change. The participation has also increased by so much it's actually astounding. From last place in spirit counts to now second place is an amazing change.
My Impact
I would like to say I had a good impact on getting people to participate. I went out of my way and spent money for bandanas that would be counted for red and white spirit. I also communicated with people that are considered “weird'' and convinced them to participate. By talking to people may actually listen and do what is asked. I also feel that I have a positive impact on our class with my positive energy and energy in general.
