Initial Letter - Page 1
Coming into the school year I was filled with excitement. Having not gone to school last year because of Covid and being on distance learning really made me look forward to coming to school in person. There were times where I was worried about how classes or events would go, but I knew to look at every unexpected twist and turn as a chance to learn and grow. I have high expectations for us as a class mainly because there is a greater connection between the classes than in previous years. There is no gap or divider between the underclassmen and upperclassmen and I cannot wait to see what surprises will come this year. The divide was such a problem because there were situations where it felt that only upperclassmen, or Seniors, would have a say. This year I cannot imagine such a thing happening and working together with so many new classmates will be something I look forward to. With Covid, we have to adapt and handle all sorts of adversities that we as a class have never faced before but with a good attitude, I genuinely believe that this year will be a fantastic one. This year I plan on taking it more seriously than in years past because it is finally my senior year. However, that won’t stop me from having the fun that I always enjoy. I used to have the concept that grades were everything drilled into my head but I’ve discovered that if I have to sacrifice my mental health for the sake of an A in a class then maybe grades aren’t everything. This year I promise myself to not stress out over any situation and handle all situations calmly and to the best of my ability. I will have the fun that I enjoy and spread a smile on everyone's faces. Out of this program, I expect to grow as an individual more than I already have. I am a firm believer that a person can always be better and do better and this program helps people accomplish such growth.
Favorite Quotes Part 1 - Page 2
“Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However, that parting need not last forever… Whether a parting is forever or merely for a short time… That is up to you.”
I’m the type of person who lives in the present moment so this quote means quite a bit to me. The quote is from my favorite video game, The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask which is my first ever video game. Everytime you meet someone it is inevitable for a parting to follow. It is up to a said individual whether the people they meet stay in a temporary meeting, or a meeting that happens continuously. The choice is always up to you.
“The flow of time is always cruel… Its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it… A thing that doesn’t change with time is a memory of younger days.”
Another quote from my favorite video game series The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, this quote is meaningful to me. You must live in the moment and if not the things will always pass by you. You must make memories with the things you have now, if you don’t you will only lament on the past when you are old. Time is cruel and people have a time limit, it is inevitable, but you should always make the most of it.
“Esta historia terminó, no existe
Lo que un día construimos se ha esfumado”
Direct translation of this song Lo Que Construimos by Natalia Lafourcade is “This story has finished, it doesn’t exist; What one day we built has vanished.” The song has a sound that I thoroughly enjoy. The quote itself makes me relate to my view on life. Not all meetings we have in life will exist forever, and some will vanish in a blink of an eye, however your perspective on how you take it all is up to you. Take life how you will, how you see life through your own eyes affects everything.

Quote Part 2 - Page 3
“To love the world, you must hate it. To hate is to love and to love is to hate, equilibrium is always present”
There were so many moments this year where I just wanted to let my frustration win. A new concept for me since I was not a person to get mad, however I have learned that only love is unrealistic. Love and Hate go hand in hand, one does not exist without the other. You need to learn to balance what you hate and love and find a middle ground. I think this quote can impact future students, because there is no bs. Students in the program need to understand that not everything will go well and that you must hate things in order to succeed while loving those same things. Life is a complicated thing and cannot be described as anything else except for a love-hate relationship. Personally I learned that my original attitude full of love was in fact too optimistic. The optimism is still appreciated however not everything will end up swell so if I hate something that looks bad, then fix it. Hate and Love are both motivations and good ones at that. To love the world you must hate it.

Goals Part 1 - Page 4
One short term goal I have this year is to get straight A’s my entire senior year. As someone who strives for academic achievement, I will strive to maintain a high gpa. I have maintained really good grades my entire highschool career and will continue to do so. To others it may not seem like a meaningful goal but I will strive nonetheless.
Another one of my short term goals is to win all events at Ripon High and get 1st place. It is my senior year and I plan on making it enjoyable. This year the seniors will win homecoming, winterfest and every other event. That is not only a goal but a promise because even if we don't always take 1st place we will win in other ways.
A long term goal of mine is to go to Columbia university. Columbia has been a dream school of mine since I was a freshman and I plan on making it happen. I plan on majoring in biomedical engineering and pursue a higher education. Going to a prestigious university is not just a dream but a goal that I will achieve.
Another long term goal of mine is to be financially stable. As a person who grew up poor, having money is always something I am content with getting. Pursuing a higher education will cost a lot of money, so I need to be financially stable to actually provide for myself. Whether that be comfortable or just financially free, I plan on having either or. To be able to go out to dinner with friends without worrying about money for groceries is a goal I will accomplish.
A lifetime goal I have is to get a PhD in a subject of my interest. I plan on majoring in a stem field and will pursue a higher education. To be able to do work that I love will be something I will be content with. Also getting a job pertaining to the PhD is something I will work towards. However there are moments where I think I may pursue a different career, but the intention remains the same; I will pursue a higher education in a subject of my interest.
A true lifetime goal of mine is to have a home with a family I call my own. I’m the type of person that believes that you choose your own family and family is not chosen. In the future I will have a family, with kids is to be determined, and I will work towards making myself and my family happy. I am a very loving person and I am the type of person with enough love for a lot of people. A goal that I promise to make happen.

Goals Part 2 - Page 5
My first goal was to get straight A’s. I did not achieve this goal, however I have maintained an equivalent of an A in all my classes. I have B’s in all my AP classes at the moment, but they're still technically A’s. My grades are important to me, and I still work towards academic success, however exhaustion is real. My second goal was all events at Ripon High. And who won overall Homecoming, and Winterfest. The seniors. Nothing else needs to be said regarding that goal.
My first long term goal was to attend columbia. However I was not admitted and not waitlisted to Columbia. However I am about to commit to UCSD and know that I will enjoy my time in the environment and love the future ahead of me.
My second long term goal was to be financially stable. This is still a goal I have to work towards. In fact my education is only 8,300 yearly and I think of that as a huge accomplishment. The aid that UCSD is giving me is great and I can see myself getting closer and closer to financial stability.
My first lifetime goal is to get a PhD. I still have that goal. I will be majoring in chemical engineering and know I’ll love my time pursuing higher education. Even if I don't accomplish this goal I know I’ll be happy with myself.
My second lifetime goal is to have a family. That goal has not changed. In fact I’m in a relationship right now. Something pretty unexpected but since he's a junior in high school, we will have to travel a long distance when I'm in college. I cannot wait to plan for my future.

Role Model - Page 8
Not necessarily a role model but definitely a person who has influenced me, Derek Nguyen is an individual. At first I never thought I could be his friend, we just had too different views, but as time went on and we bonded over distance learning we got closer as friends. After meeting Derek I allowed myself to let loose in a way I haven’t before, normally I am a very chill individual but went to a whole new level after meeting Derek. Also my time management has become better because of him. Since he FaceTimes me almost everyday to do homework, I have been able to bring myself to do my own homework. As a procrastinator I have been able to grow a bit past that since I have someone that does similar work to my own. Also helping Derek with his school work has allowed me to get a better understanding of my own work. Whenever he needs help, I have to become better to help and I’ve been able to grow as a person. Though we are both dumb people he is some a role model I have, at least in some manner.
Inner Animal - Page 9
A panda perfectly describes my true nature. An animal that literally only sleeps and eats, I have never felt more of an attachment. As a person who sleeps incredibly long and eats huge meals, there is little to no difference between a panda's personality and my own. I also think a panda nature resonates with me, as they are seen as kind and I never do anything with rude intentions. Pandas are gentle by nature but still are strong bears, and I consider myself to be a gentle individual but I still have the strength to push forward. Seen as a symbol of balance, pandas are strong bears that take charge in nature. I am a person who strives for balance between people and dislikes conflict that gets out of hand. Also who doesn't love pandas they always get the attention. And as someone who is partially narcissist I love the compliments people give me. A panda and I are one and the same.

The Impact of Sound & Words - Page 11
[Verse 1]
This that studio session (Listen up)
Where I deliver you a message (Real shit, real shit)
Reminding you to count your blessings (Got to)
'Cause some ain't make it to they breakfast
That ain't no crisis, that's just life shit
Life go up and down like a light switch
Hang in there with a tight grip
When times get darker than a night shift
The road get bumpy like a pussy shaved down
Do what you said, not what you say now
Don't listen to 'em, there's so much hate now
The internet a 90's-baby playground
Feel undefeated when you at your weakest
Like you cannot beat this and go (go)
That ain't your friend if he walkin' with money
While you sitting hungry, that's cold
That ain't your bro, nigga that's low
Fast money, you will not die slow
I done placed so many flowers on different graves
I tell my dates now, don't bring a rose
[Verse 2]
It was days I dreamed of money
But I woke up broke instead (Why?)
Maybe that's my fault, I shouldn't sleep until I'm dead (I'm woke)
You want it, you gotta work at it (You gotta)
You gotta stay chill, don't panic (You gotta)
Be a better bitch than them bitches out there
Want abortion money but not pregnant
You know those that can't keep count after 'uno, dos'
Man it shows
People think no cons come with they pros (But they do)
But I'm dealing with real shit
My stretch marks really itch
My hair haven't grown an inch
But I'm still that bitch
Black marks on my inner thighs
Well man don't criticize me (Don't do it)
'Cause everybody got flaws
If you think you don't you must can't see (Look in the mirror)
Follow me to get close
Not to just compliment my clothes (I'm on the 'gram)
'Cause if my crib get burned down will you still follow my robe?
[Chorus]
Gotta stay ahead, never say you finish
What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes?
Gotta stay ahead, never say you finish
What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes? (Hey, hey)
What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes?
Gotta stay ahead, never say you finish
What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes?
[Post-Chorus]
What you gonna do? What you gonna do?
What you gonna do? What you gonna do?
What you gonna do? What you gonna do?
[Outro]
Gotta stay ahead, never say you finish
What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes?
What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes?
I chose this song because it reminds me to think of the moment and plan for the future. In order to be truly successful in life, yes you can take breaks but you must also strive forwards at all times. The first verse serves as a wake up call for me to be grateful for all the blessings in life. To be completely honest I also chose this song because I love cupcakKe as a music artist. Though people only know her for inappropriate music, that is not all her discography is. I truly love her music and love this song.

What I Like Best About Being a Member of Leadership - Page 13
One of my favorite moments in Leadership this year was during homecoming this year. While painting uo some cardboard we had to paint some piranhas for the side of our float. While trying to figure out the colors, I don’t remember who came up with the idea, but the color scheme of our piranhas were LGBTQ+ flag themed. Since the flags are pretty colors it’s hard for others to notice, but it was a small detail that people could appreciate. If anything it’s a memory I can look back on.
Another memory that I hold dear, while also a part of homecoming, is the making of the pvc pipe poster. That poster required sweat, tears, and even blood for its creation. From the “Sussy Baka,” to the actual land of Adventure-Land. The poster was something we had to do all nighter for; people stayed at Emma's until twelve o’clock at night for the sake of finishing the poster. The poster was a time where we could be hysterical with one another and bind over the difficulty that is Homecoming. A memory that I can only relate to future trauma in a laughing manner.
Not a very specific moment but the moments I have spent bonding with people in Mortys office. There is always someone in Mortys office and the conversations are unforgettable memories. From arguing with Spencer to making jokes with Derek, Morty’s office is a place full of memories. Practically my shelter, I hold Mortys office dear.

Reflection of a Peer in Leadership - Page 14
Spencer Redula takes the time out of his day to be there for his peers. Whether it be by volunteering whenever someone needs help or just being a person to talk to Spencer is there. An incredibly funny individual I appreciate the moments and conversations I’ve had with him.

What I love to do - Page 16
Something that I truly love doing is playing video games. I am the type of person that is willing to sacrifice other activities for the sake of the activity I love doing. That includes missing a day of school to play a video game. Currently obsessed with the game Lost Ark which is the game I missed school for. Something else that I enjoy doing is sleeping. The ability to sleep anywhere is a tremendous trait that I take pride in. I have slept in all sorts of locations and do not regret any of my naps. Sleeping during Encore or even sleeping on a pole, sleep is something that I love doing. The things I love to do I will always do my best to accomplish.
Letter to Parents - Page 17
Thank you for everything that you both have done. You guys try your hardest and I know that, but it still is hard. I'm so happy that both of you came to the U.S. for a better chance at life. Dad I know that you're trying, I really do. I thank you for that. I know we have our differences but you still say you love me despite it all. Mom, thank you for everything. I know it's confusing for you but I'm growing up. I do appreciate everything you do. I wish you didn't have to work such long hours but I know you have to do what must be done. Both of you have trust in me and I appreciate it so much. I don't ever want to let you both down. I try my best but I wish it felt like you guys cared. I've always been the smartest so I guess my excellence in school doesn't mean a lot. You guys have your priorities now and I have my own. We don't see each other but that's okay. That's life. I've always been able to take care of myself and I always will, so don't ever worry about me. You have better things to worry about and I understand that. Plus I have my brothers and they're there for more. Mom, I know I'm super busy so thank you for putting up with it. Dad, thanks for doing your best. To both of you thank you for trying, I know you tried your hardest. I will say that I am excited to leave and thank you for all the support you have given me.
Your True Legacy - Page 18
Dear Emily,
I truly wish you the best of luck in being a senior class administrative assistant. The job is not easy, there have been so many moments where I wondered what the heck all the work I was doing was for. However, I know that it is all worth it in the end. If you are somebody who likes to procrastinate, you can still get away with it. But know that in the long run it will come back and bite you and next thing you know you're waiting on a shipment from amazon to arrive the day of. Keep track of everything. And I mean everything. Every purchase order made, every announcement form, every single meeting. The procedure form falls on you and it is difficult work, make sure to look at the asb website for past examples because that resource is always there for you. The first thing you'll have to do is Senior Class Merch, which I truly believe will look amazing. However the next thing you'll need to do is Senior Sunrise. I recommend learning how to do a reimbursement AND MAKE SURE TO KEEP EVERY RECEIPT. The current senior officers each have a minimum of $50 down the drain because we lost a receipt for wood. Don't be us. Do not be afraid to yell at others and take charge. There will be moments where you will be the one handling everything because of hectic schedules and as a senior you have to take the full brunt of it. Make sure to communicate with your officers, especially all seniors. They will help if you need it. Also make sure to communicate with Morty about any issues, you will be working with her the entire time. There will be a lot of work that needs to be done, but I honestly have faith that you will accomplish it. You will have an amazing senior year and never keep looking forward.
All the best,
Bryan Ochoa

The Professional - Page 21
A professional skill that I did not realize the importance of is Speaking Your Mind. Throughout this school year I was allowed to speak in the way I normally would, with Swear words. It was through this that I was able to create an environment of comfortability where thoughts and opinions could be equally shared. I have never been fond of formal settings, it has always felt too constricting, so I would talk. With my words impact can be created. This year I think I have set a good example on how to use your words to their fullest potential in a way that can be appreciated. Another professional skill that I have learned this year is multitasking. As senior year gets hectic I’ve been able to use multitasking as a means to accomplish many of the things that need to be completed. It is important to manage the things that need to be done and effectively do them but by multitasking, it is possible to finish multiple tasks at a much faster rate. Multitasking is hardly discussed but something you learn throughout the program because of how much that is done. Speaking your mind and Multitasking are important skills in the professional world and skills I have used outside the classroom.
Change - Page 22
From the beginning of this year I think I grew into a more mature individual. I admit that my personality has already begun to shape and my ideals are solidifying. Being in my senior year I definitely think I have changed for the better and have become the definition of a young adult. I cherish the moments that I have had and can’t help but look forward to the future. I think the most change occurred because of college and the stress of it. It was because of college that I needed to discover how I wanted to put my skills into use but also how I want to progress in life. College was a process that drained my mentality and still drains that mentality because of such a major decision. This year was the year where I was able to express my emotions to an extent that I honestly believed I had forgotten how. I cannot look back on this year with any disgust nor despair, I can only look back on this year with fondful memories. I used to have the mindset that positivity will always persevere but as I've lived my life I understand that positivity is necessary but cannot be the only thing. The world could use more positivity but sometimes you need to face the world with sadness and anger. To be honest, during praises when people said I am someone they look up to, I can't help but feel uncomfortable. I have always believed that I am someone whose story should be shared but not relieved, that I am not the example to follow but to avoid. However, that perspective is slowly changing as my influence on people's actions and minds grows. In the same way that people see me as a role model, I think that I should be able to see myself as worthy of being a role model. I have many inner turmoils I still need to face but I can say with confidence that this year and this program have helped me prepare to face them. In regards to the future of the program, the change I would like to see is a change in perspective. I dislike dealing with privilege but I still dealt with it. I can see conflict happening in the future because of differences in ideals but I know that those that are true leaders will work towards a better future. The only change I suggest is to never stray away from it. To go with the flow of the program.
The Ideal Leader - page 23
An ideal leader is someone who listens to the people around them. Someone who puts in the effort to create change, even if it's one person at a time. A leader is not always at the forefront of the operation, but is sometimes putting in the work behind the scenes. In this program a leader should be attentive and willing to help others while asking questions. Homework should be completed on time and deadlines should always be met accordingly. Events are a big part of the program and need to be taken seriously. A leader can be anyone but true leaders will remain consistent and work hard for their goals.
